Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills!
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) - a camping experience that is
intended to take new leaders through the outdoor requirements the boys must
complete for advancement through First Class. This is "hands on" training -
leaders will do the same activities that the boys are expected to do
This hands-on program gives adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need
to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. The skills presented closely follow the Boy
Scout Handbook. The purpose of the course is to ensure that new leaders are
proficient in the basic outdoor skills at the Tenderfoot through First Class
levels. The course will be organized like a troop with patrols of scouters
(participants) to ensure a hands-on, small-group experience. Staff Instructors
will be assigned to help as needed in camp set up, cooking of meals, map
reading, compass use, rope work, woods tools, hiking and packing, nature, first
aid, and Leave No Trace.
